How to Read Your Annual Forecast
In Bazi, each calendar year carries its own Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch, forming the annual pillar (流年). This pillar layers over your fixed natal chart each year, adding a new elemental energy to the field. The annual pillar does not replace your natal chart. It activates, suppresses, harmonises with, or clashes against what is already there.
The Heavenly Stem of the annual year relates to your Day Master through the Ten Gods system. This gives the stem a role: Eating God energy in a given year signals a creative, expressive period; Seven Killings energy signals a more pressured, sharpening quality; Direct Wealth rewards diligence and practical effort. The Branch Ten God shown uses the primary hidden stem of the annual branch, which often carries a subtler or underlying energy to the year.
Branch clashes and harmonies are not omens. A clash between the annual branch and one of your natal pillars is activation: things move, shift, and come to the surface. The pillar being clashed tells you where this tends to show up. A Day Pillar clash activates personal and relational themes. A Month Pillar clash activates career and social environment. Harmonies suggest ease and alignment in those same areas. Three-way combinations tend to transform the energy of both branches into something new. None of these are fixed outcomes. They are tendencies worth reflecting on.
The luck pillar decade provides the backdrop. Each ten-year luck pillar brings a sustained elemental quality to your chart. The annual year operates within that decade context. A year with Direct Officer energy, for example, will feel different in a Resource decade than it does in a Seven Killings decade. Reading them together gives a richer picture than either one alone.
